50/50 and the reality of streaks
| Flips | Typical result | Deviation from 50% |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 7-3 possible | Often large |
| 100 | ≈ 55-45 | Moderate |
| 1000 | ≈ 505-495 | Small |
| ∞ | 50% – 50% | Zero (theoretical) |
Drawn by crypto.getRandomValues (random bit). No result is sent or stored.
Frequently asked questions
Is the toss really 50/50?
Yes. Each flip reads a random byte via crypto.getRandomValues and keeps its low bit: heads or tails each have exactly a one-in-two chance, with no bias.
Why don’t my 10 flips give 5-5?
That’s normal: over a small number of flips, deviation from 50/50 is common (say 7-3). The more you flip, the closer the percentage gets to 50% — that’s the law of large numbers, not a flaw.
What is the counter for?
It adds up all your flips and shows the number of heads, tails, the total and the percentages. Handy for a probability experiment or to track a streak.
Are my flips sent anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser, offline once the page is loaded. No result is stored or transmitted.
