GenerationDescendants

ℹ️ Theoretical model: each person has, on average, this many children. Total = geometric sum. 100% local.

Estimate the number of descendants

Enter the average number of children per person and the number of generations: the tool gives the total and a per-generation breakdown.

The method

  • Generation i: cⁱ descendants
  • Total = c + c² + … + cⁿ
  • Exponential growth
  • Simplified theoretical model

Example

Frequently asked questions

How are descendants estimated?

At each generation the count is multiplied by the average number of children. The total is the sum: c + c² + … + cⁿ.

Example?

With 2 children per person over 5 generations: 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + 32 = 62 descendants.

Is it realistic?

It is a simplified model: it assumes everyone has the same number of children and that they all reproduce.

Why does it explode?

It is exponential growth: even 2–3 children per person yields thousands of descendants in 10 generations.
