Calculate the firewood needed
Enter the fire duration, the burn rate (kg/h) and the weight of a log: the tool gives the total weight and number of logs.
The method
- Wood = duration × burn rate
- Logs = wood ÷ weight of a log
- Guide: ~2 kg/hour for a campfire
- Dry hardwoods = best burn
Example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Duration | 5 h |
| Burn rate | 2 kg/h |

Frequently asked questions
How much wood per hour?
An average campfire burns about 2 kg of wood per hour; a large fire far more, a small ambience fire less.
How to estimate the number of logs?
Divide the total weight by the average weight of a log (default 1.5 kg).
Does the wood type matter?
Yes: hardwoods (oak, beech) burn slower than softwoods (pine, fir).
And moisture?
Dry wood (well split, seasoned ≥ 1 year) burns better; wet wood burns faster and smokes.
