Frequently asked questions
How does the Hebrew calendar work?
It is lunisolar: 12 lunar months, with a 13th month (Adar I) added 7 times in 19 years to track the seasons.
What does A.M. mean?
Anno Mundi (“year of the world”), counting years since creation in Jewish tradition (year 5784 ≈ 2023-2024).
Why does the date change at sunset?
The Hebrew day starts at dusk. This tool uses the civil date; the evening before already belongs to the next Hebrew day.
Does it handle Adar I and II?
Yes: in a leap year, Adar I (month 12) and Adar II (month 13) are distinguished.
