Frequently asked questions

How is ROI calculated?

ROI = (final value − amount invested) ÷ amount invested, as a percentage. Example: investing 1000 and getting back 1500 gives a 500 gain, i.e. a 50% ROI.

What is annualized ROI?

It brings the return to a yearly basis to compare different durations: (final value ÷ invested)^(1/years) − 1. For 1000 → 1500 over 3 years, the annualized ROI is about 14.47%.

Why does total ROI differ from annualized?

Total ROI (50%) covers the whole period. Annualized (14.47%) is the equivalent compounded yearly rate. Three years at 14.47% compounded indeed gives +50%.

Does ROI account for fees and taxes?

No, unless you include them yourself. For net ROI, add fees to the amount invested and remove taxes from the final value. It is an estimate, not financial advice.
